World Bamboo Day 2014
As you may have already guessed it, “World Bamboo Day” is a day to celebrate the increase of the awareness of bamboo globally.
World Bamboo Day was declared by the Thai Royal Forest Department on 18 September in Bangkok, during the 8th World Bamboo Congress held at the Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel.
On this special day, the World Bamboo Organization focuses to showcase the potential of bamboo. They also aim to highlight the obvious reasons to protect natural resources and the environment, and to ensure sustainable utilization. Another reason for this “Bamboo” day is to promote new cultivation for new industries around the world, and to market traditional uses locally for community economic development.
Bamboo Uses
Currently, there are so many everyday items made from Bamboo, for instance:
- Wood
- Paper
- Textiles
- Beverages
- Bicycles
Note: Bamboo flooring, is in extremely high demand all over the world. Bamboo flooring has the texture of marble but the elegance of wood; in addition, they are, like most bamboo products, strong, durable, and resistant to humidity.
The thousands of bamboo products that we see on the market today, are really just the tip of the iceberg. Some people predict that there are going to be many more innovative applications of bamboo and they will enter the consumer market in the next few years. Therefore, if you are a firm believer of how bamboo can contribute to a greener and cleaner environment, you should be excited, as we are!
